The Wave vs United

Recap

The Wave were handed a very disappointing defeat at the hands or feet of United O40 despite leading for much of the game.  The Wave were on the defensive most of the game but there were opportunities to counter attack.  The first goal of the game was provided with a Bill Patton fast break beating the United O40 keeper on the 1 on 1 confrontation.  _Somebody_ sent in a nice pass to assist.

Rachel Chaput’s shot did not cross the goal line but did drop at the feet of teammate Marco Martinez who finished nicely by putting the ball into the back of the net for his 2nd goal of his career.

I cannot remember if I was supposed to or not supposed to report that May MacGreggor missed her chance to save the day.  Late in the game May’s shot beat the keeper only to be thwarted by the crossbar.

The Wave have been improving every game this season but eventually succumbed due to the formation and substitution problems that have plagued them all season.  The Wave manager Rodney Yoshida says “This game showed that the system works.  With a little more discipline on holding formation and a little more care with where players are substituting into, we may be able to give a little competition to the Ducks and Rotolo’s.  I could not say that at the beginning of this season.  In fact I could not say that until this game.  There are encouraging signs.”
