First O40 Victory Comes Against Old Foe
The Wave wins first Over 40 match against an old rival Aftershock in a hard fought 2-1 victory. Aftershock scored an own goal off of a nice cross from Marco Martinez. The 2nd goal was set up on a cross from Bill Patton to Rodney Yoshida who redirected the ball toward the goal. Nobody in the Aftershock defense seemed concerned about getting to the ball so Bill Patton turned on the speed, collected the ball and sent it past the keeper with ease.
Aftershock scored late and kept up the pressure trying to equalize. The Wave were out of gas and in pure defense mode. Even injured playmaker Shana Harris recognized the situation and dropped from her offensive midfield position to help bolster the defense. The 7 player defensive line held on for the Victory. The formation looked like a 7-0-3 in the closing minutes of the game. At one point Bill asked if we should pull Paula back as well but it was decided to let her stay up just in case we got lucky and were able to send the ball upfield. Aftershock with their 4 or 5 men and women subs were not enough to get by The Wave and their 1 woman sub. The Wave would have played a much different game if they had a couple more subs.
Good Game and Congratulations!
